Canada World Sight Challenge 2015 update

Canada World Sight Challenge 2015 update

Creative ideas abounded!

The 2015 World Sight Day Challenge was a success with many people across Canada putting their support and efforts towards giving the gift of vision to those in need.

This included:

  • Over 600 optometrists in 275 optometry offices
  • 6 major optical companies
  • 1 optometry school, a pre-optometry club and an opticianry society
  • Numerous patients and individuals

Creative ideas abounded, and we’ve received some photos from offices and companies of their efforts.

Here are a few highlights:

Complete Eyecare Optometry in Abbotsford BC made a donation for the Challenge and they also held several fundraising events in October, including a bake sale. A couple of their staff members are exceptional bakers and the mouth-watering goodies (cupcakes and macaroons pictured above) were a great hit!

Cambridge Eye Care in Cambridge ON held their annual pub-night event to raise funds for the World Sight Day Challenge. The event was a huge success! They also held a bake sale well as several other fundraising events throughout October and made a donation for the Challenge!

Valley Vision Optometry in Port Alberni BC: In addition to donating a day of eye exam fees, making monthly donations throughout the year, selling chocolates and inviting patients to donate, Valley Vision Optometry also held a few additional creative events. They ran a selfie-stick gift with purchase promotion along with wearing T-shirts to promote the World Sight Day Challenge. They also held a Clearance Frame Sale throughout October where they donated $25 to Optometry Giving Sight for each one sold!

The University of Waterloo Optometry Students participated again this year for the World Sight Day Challenge, and raised the most of any optometry school in North America! Their fundraising included a ‘Dining in the Dark’ event where participants were blindfolded during a meal to simulate what it would be like to be blind, and a silent auction for many items that were generously donated by the optometric community, local businesses and individuals. TLC Laser Centre in Waterloo was the largest sponsor of the event, donating a laser eye surgery gift certificate for the silent auction.

FYidoctors were involved in a big way again this year! All of their offices participated in the World Sight Day Challenge, and the FYidoctors Home Office team (pictured) held many fundraising events. Members of Home Office team competed in the Canmore Half Marathon – 5k Run in September to inspire donations. The legal, acquisitions and reception department teams hosted a wine tasting and donated $20 from every ticket purchased. The home office marketing team hosted a “Spin for Sight” spin class and movie night. The Head Office also ran their annual “$1 for Every Like” campaign on Facebook, giving $1 to Optometry Giving Sight for every new 'like' made!

Our sincere thanks to all of the optometry offices, optical companies and individuals who have donated their support and/or efforts to change lives.
