Optometry Giving Sight was established in 2003 by three of the world’s leading eye care organizations – the World Optometry Foundation (WOF), the International Centre for Eyecare Education (ICEE), and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). These organizations came together to collaborate on a global campaign in support of the goals of VISION 2020: The Right to Sight to give sight to millions in need while helping to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020.

The purpose of the IAPB is to promote and sustain a global campaign against all forms of avoidable blindness led by governments with input from the WHO, and non government organizations (NGOs). Campaigns now exist in more than 80 countries. In 1999, IAPB and WHO developed and launched the VISION 2020: Right to Sight Program.
