Construction of the non-profit optometry clinic on the Xochicalco University campus in Mexico is almost complete. The clinic, which will officially open in August, will house five exam rooms where fourth year optometry students will examine the poor of Tijuana under faculty supervision and provide low-cost eye glasses.“The new clinic was previously utilized as a University staff break room and storage facility,” said Dr. Greg Pearl from VOSH International. “We agreed to the construction of a 5m x 10m replacement storage facility which was started in November 2009 and completed in early January 2010. The addition of a 5m x 10m waiting room to the front of the clinic structure was begun in January and completed in April. Now that the wiring and plumbing has been completed, the equipment can be installed.
“It’s been a long haul but we are delighted that the clinic will be up and running for the new academic year.”
