Latin America
Optometry Giving Sight has and is continuing to fund programs across Latin America working with a number of partner organizations. People living in earthquake devastated Haiti, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru have and will benefit from your donations.
Project: Giving Sight in Haiti
Following the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12, Optometry Giving Sight launched an appeal to raise funds for some of the most vulnerable victims – those who cannot see simply because they don’t have a pair of glasses.Project: Optometry Clinic, Mexico
Construction of the non-profit optometry clinic on the Xochicalco University campus in Mexico is almost complete. The clinic, which will officially open in August, will house five exam rooms where fourth year optometry students will examine the poor of Tijuana under faculty supervision and provide low-cost eye glasses.
Project: Presbyopia / Refractive Error Study, Nicaragua
Funding has been granted to VOSH International to carry out a study determining the incidence of presbyopia and refractive error in Nicaragua. The information collected will assist in the establishment of permanent eye clinics that will be able to help many people across the country.
Project: Student Equipment, Peru
Students at Schools of Optometry in Peru will benefit from funds allocated by Optometry Giving Sight. Funds will support the purchase of trial lenses and hand instruments to assist the students in their studies.
