Optometry Giving Sight launched in historical surroundings in Italy
The Great Hall in the second oldest University in the world in Padova was the venue for the launching of Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) in Italy. Backed by both Federottica and ALBO, the optometry professionals, opticians and the optical industry gave a rousing reception to the concept that the optometry and optical community had a responsibility to the world to help provide vision correction to those in need.
In accepting the challenge to raise funds to eliminate one of the main causes of avoidable blindness – uncorrected refractive error, the optometry and industry delegates and their organizations were pleased to endorse Optometry Giving Sight as their international charity of choice.
“Optometry Giving Sight is our opportunity to be part of a sustainable and achievable solution to a global problem,” said Rossella Fonte, chairperson for OGS in Italy. “We are very excited about being part of a global initiative that will have such a significant impact on the welfare of people in developing countries where vision care is so badly needed.”
