Calgary Society of Optometrists Evening

Professor Brien HoldenProfessor Brien Holden CEO of the Institute for Eye Research gave an informative evening of Continuing Education in Calgary to the Calgary Society of Optometrists on March 31st. He presented the following topics: Silicone Hydrogel Lenses, Care Systems and Preventing Adverse Events and Myopia: Can we Control It? In addition, Professor Holden, provided a very moving update on Optometry Giving Sight and encouraged all present to support “optometry’s charity” by a personal or practice donation and/or taking the World Sight Day Challenge.

CIBA VISION graciously sponsored the evening and 85 Calgary optometrists were in attendance. In addition, Dr. Scott Brisbin, chair of Optometry Giving Sight Canada and Barbara Bruce, the new Executive Director of Alberta Association of Optometrists, flew in from Edmonton for the evening.

 

The 2008 World Sight Day Challenge Campaign kicks off!

WSDCOctober 9, 2008 is World Sight Day this year and the campaign has already commenced. This year’s theme is Vision for Life.

Starting in April for the next two months, both the CIBA VISION and Centennial Optical sales forces and OSI marketing reps will be handing out World Sight Day Challenge (WSDC) postcards to all their customers, urging them to consider taking the challenge and to send off the postcard to receive a full information package about this great event. A full kit of marketing materials including press releases will be supplied to all participating practices.

Birthday Bash Helps Optometry Giving Sight!

Dr Galatis“Dr. Julia Galatis from Miramichi, New Brunswick had a big birthday celebration recently and instead of receiving gifts from the many attendees, she asked them to make a donation to her charity of choice, Optometry Giving Choice. A great time was had by all and a large sum was collected to help provide sustainable primary eye care programs in the developing world.

 

Optometry Giving Sight Supporter at Age 7!

Sebastian KollerSebastian Koller became a big supporter of Optometry Giving Sight at age 7! As his mother, Deanna Koller explains, “My son, Sebastian, turned 7 years old and just got his first pair of glasses before school. As I was suggesting different places he could donate to (in lieu of birthday gifts at his party), he stopped me at yours – Optometry Giving Sight.” Sebastian and his guests donated a total of $175.00 to help give sight and hope to others in need.

 

World Sight Day Challenge 2008

Save the date for World Sight Day Challenge October 2008!
World Sight Day is October 9, 2008. Join Optometry Giving Sight and help give sight to the millions who are needlessly blind or visually impaired by donating one day’s exams fee in October and invite your patients to donate with exciting events through out October. Details coming soon!
