Country funded projects
Optometry Giving Sight recognizes that the problem of uncorrected refractive error is an issue on all continents; however, 90% of avoidable blindness occurs in developing countries in Africa, Asia, China and South America. Optometry Giving Sight focuses on communities most in need of services and raises funds that go directly to projects that ensure sustainable, lasting results in three ways:
- Eye care service delivery - exams, low-cost eye glasses and low-vision devices;
- Human Resources - training of optometrists, eye care personnel and their teachers;
- Infrastructure development – establishment and support of vision centers, eye clinics and schools of optometry.
In an effort to maximize the impact of current donations, funds will be used to support the Priority Projects as described below. As Optometry Giving Sight continues to raise the profile of this global problem, we expect that available funds will also increase and that we will expand our Project Priority list.
