Yarra Yarra Golf Day

Yarra Yarra Golf CourseThe Annual OAA Victorian Golf Day takes place at the prestigious Yarra Yarra Golf Club on 15th March 2010. Both handicap and non-handicap golfers are welcome to join colleagues in what always proves to be a fantastic day of golf, followed by a great meal, in a stunning location.

A round of golf at the club normally costs $140 but for just $100 you can enjoy a round at one of Australia’s top courses; lunch on arrival; a show bag; professional golfer challenge; sumptuous two course evening meal and an award presentation.

Registration begins at 11.30am and individuals or groups (up to 4 players) can register for the Individual Stableford Event. Proceeds from the day benefit Optometry Giving Sight.

Focus on the Challenge!

“Our goal was to beat last year’s efforts and we did that by at least double. Next year we will try to beat $1000! Staff and patients were proud of us for supporting this charity event and were full of compliments after reading our article in the local newspaper. Even people who were not part of our practice came in just to donate!”

Top Score for Golf Day

Tim McKinnon, Judith Cook and Andrew MrakovcicGolf enthusiasts raised an impressive $6,300 for Optometry Giving Sight through the NSW Annual Moss Vale Golf Day on 21st September. Thanks to everyone who played, the sponsors and to Tim McKinnon and Andrew Mrakovcic for organizing the day. 89 golfers enjoyed the beautiful course which hosted the golf day for the seventh time.

The next golf day to benefit Optometry Giving Sight will take place on 15th March 2010 at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club in Victoria. Contact David Ludowyk on 0418 517 879 for more information.

 

CCLSA honours Brien Holden

Ken Bell, Brien Holden, Ian Sim and Dorothy McDiarmidThe National Meeting of the Cornea & Contact Lens Society (CCLSA) was held in Perth on 1st November with just over forty members and guests attending.

There were four interstate speakers and one local speaker as well as the AGM of the Society which passed the new Constitution of the Society.

Prior to his address, Professor Brien Holden, Global Executive Chair of Optometry Giving Sight, was presented with Honorary Life Membership of the Society by President Ian Sim, for his contributions to the Society’s interests and for his leadership in research and philanthropy.

 

Students get into the WSDC spirit!

UNSW students WSDC09For the second year running, students at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, have excelled in their fundraising efforts. Hosting a series of events over September and October, the students created a World Sight Day Challenge buzz on campus and had a great time in the process.

World Sight Day was seen in with a BBQ and prize draw for a raffle with fantastic prizes donated by local businesses. Over the previous few weeks, the students were also busy selling raffle tickets, hosting another BBQ, a cake sale and donating a percentage of ticket sales from their faculty Eye Ball. In total the UNSW students raised $5,500.

Students from QUT, Queensland, also took on the Challenge by hosting a trivia night and holding a BBQ on World Sight Day raising a total of $1,200.

Thanks to all the students for their fantastic efforts in the World Sight Day Student Challenge!
