Transitions Optical is one of several high profile companies who have made an early and strong commitment to help eliminate refractive error blindness by supporting the World Sight Day Company Challenge with a donation of $25,000.
The World Sight Day Company Challenge, which is coordinated by Optometry Giving Sight, is an opportunity for all members of the optical industry to help raise funds for sustainable vision care projects that will provide affordable and accessible eye care services to people in under-served communities.
To take the Challenge, companies are invited to make a tax deductible donation on or before World Sight Day, which is October 13th. Companies are also invited to encourage their staff members to raise funds for Optometry Giving Sight on World Sight Day (or any day in October), and consider providing a company match for those donations.
“There are 670 million people throughout the world who are blind or vision impaired simply because they can’t access an eye exam and a pair of glasses,” said Mary O’Hara, Regional Giving Officer and Professional Communications Specialist, Transitions Optical. “We commend the great work that Optometry Giving Sight does in funding sustainable vision care projects and are delighted to partner with them to achieve our common goal of preserving healthy sight for a lifetime!”
Other companies and industry associations who will be supporting the Challenge include the Contact Lens Manufacturers Association (CLMA), which has endorsed Optometry Giving Sight as its Preferred Charity.
“We are proud to support this global program that not only helps people in need, but also helps to develop and promote our profession throughout the world,” said Al Vaske, President of the CLMA (pictured above left with Mary Anne Murphy and Keith Parker, also from CLMA). “On an individual level, my company, Lens Dynamics, Inc., will donate a percentage of all sales of selected contact lenses in October to Optometry Giving Sight.”
The US Chair of Optometry Giving Sight, Mary Anne Murphy, OD, said she was greatly encouraged by the support of the optical industry which also includes commitments from Optos, ABB Concise, Vision West, AllAboutVision, demandforce, Primary Eyecare Network, Clear Vision Optical, OcuSOFT, REM Eyewear, SpecialEyes LLC, Lens Dynamics, Inc., American Polarizers, AVT Advanced Vision Technology and Valley Contax, among others.
85% of donations to Optometry Giving Sight from eye care professionals, optical staff, employees and patients go directly to support projects that provide vision care, local training, and infrastructure support for people in underserved communities.
