The 2009 World Sight Day Challenge falls on October 8.

Help create sustainable vision care services for the millions of mothers, wives and daughters who do not have access to an eye exam and glasses.

World Sight Day is an initiative of VISION 2020 and this year their global theme is gender and eye health. According to VISION 2020: The Right to Sight, two-thirds of all blind people are women and girls. In many countries this is due to traditional social, economic and political structures and customs that favour men over women.

Thanks to the support of thousands of optometrists, staff, patients and companies across four countries almost US$350,000 was raised from the World Sight Day Challenge 2008!

“The World Sight Day Challenge is a great way to bring our support and our passion directly into our practice and to our patients”, said Dr. Dennis Dombrowski, of Dombrowski Eye Associates, USA. “When I think about how many people that have been given sight thanks to our donation, I am wowed. I want my patients to get that same feeling—they, too, can help give sight.”
