How you can help
Optometry Giving Sight is the only global fundraising initiative that specifically targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision due to refractive error. The campaign is directed at every optometrist and optical professional, their staff and most importantly their patients and clients, as well as the industry that serves them.
There are a number of ways you can help give sight.
If you are an optometrist, optician, patient or member of the public, you can:
- Make a regular monthly or annual donation. This is the simplest and most effective way of showing your support. Donations to Optometry Giving Sight are tax deductible and can be made online.
If you are an optometrist or optical professional, you can:
- Donate the fees from your eye exams or sight tests on World Sight Day as part of the World Sight Day Challenge.
- Implement the Practice Giving Program by inviting patients to add a few dollars to their bill, which you then match. Or you can choose to add a few dollars to the sale of a specific product (such as glasses) and donate this to Optometry Giving Sight on behalf of your patients.
- "Tick Yes to OGS" when renewing your professional membership. This program is currently available in Australia, Canada and the UK.
If you are a business or company, you can:
Funds raised from optometrists, their patients and the general public are directed to those communities most in need of services and to those projects around the world that ensure sustainable results in three areas:
- Eye care service delivery - examinations, low-cost glasses and low-vision devices
- Human Resources - training of optometrists, eye care personnel and their teachers
- Infrastructure Development - establishment and support of vision centers, eye clinics and schools of optometry.
We guarantee that 85% of all donations from optometrists and their patients are directed to support programs that help give sight to those most in need.
