Projects / Reports

There are 670 million people in the world today with little or no access to eye examinations and glasses. In many countries around the world the infrastructure to provide eye care does not exist - there are not enough schools of optometry, education programs or optical personnel to reach the people in need.

By the end of 2009 Optometry Giving Sight distributed US$2.9 million through our partners to help screen and provide basic eye care services to more than 3.5 million people, train 1550 mid-level eye care personnel and create 101 vision centres / optical workshops.

Funds are being directed to programs in Sri Lanka, East Timor, South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, India, Peru, Nicaragua, Mexico, Indigenous Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Following the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010, Optometry Giving Sight will also direct funds to Haiti.

The projects undertake service delivery with a focus on local capacity building and infrastructure development to ensure that the provision of local eye care services is sustainable and affordable.

Optometry Giving Sight has allocated all available funds at this time and is not currently inviting unsolicited funding applications.
