WHAT IS OPTOMETRY GIVING SIGHT?
TRAIN EYE CARE PROFESSIONALS
The training of local people is perhaps the single most important way we can ensure that in time, underserved communities have access to high quality eye care services from within. Sadly, there is a severe shortage of eye care workers in the parts of the world where they are most needed.
ESTABLISH VISION CENTRES
Unfortunately, for many people who experience vision problems in underserved communities, it is not as easy as walking into a local optometrist for an eye exam. Optometry simply did not exist as a profession in many developing countries until recently. Even today, in some countries, there are literally no local eye care professionals.
DELIVER EYE CARE SERVICES
Uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye exam and a pair of glasses - is the number one cause of visual impairment globally*. Optometry Giving Sight aims to mobilize resources from the global optical community and their patients to help the more than 600 million people in the world who are living as blind or vision impaired due to uncorrected refractive error.
